It's been a little while but I've embarked on a new Sims 3 challenge that I'm going to try and blog. This one is called the Random Legacy Challenge (by Hitch).
Ok, so let us meet our victims...I mean founding family. The Crowells, Alex and Gillian.
For Marital Structure Random Roll I rolled Couple and because it was my founding family I was able to just make them in CAS... again I random rolled and only changed their clothes. I didn't want to mess with any physical or hair style features to add to the random genetics I expect to see as this challenge goes on. Also all traits, zodiac, and favs were also randomized.
For Number of Children Random Roll I rolled Two Children.
Alex Crowell - No Humor, Neat, Loser, Childish, Angler
Alex is a Cancer with a LTW of Master Mixologist. (Reach Lvl 10 in Mixology Skill, Own a bar)
For Primary Income... Alex rolled Mixologist
(*just a side note, I did 'choose' the LTW of Master Mixologist because I didn't see any rules on randomizing the LTW... and since control of your heir changes as soon as the next heir reaches Young Adult I figured for the most part the LTW is not the focus or goal of this challenge, and in most cases would be nearly impossible to meet based on the other rules of the challenge. ALL other aspects of the household are randomly rolled. The only things I'm allowing myself to alter are hair style and clothes.)
For Generational Goal I rolled - Perfect Careers, so both Alex and Gillian need to reach the tops of their careers and max out all required skills for their jobs. I tweeked this one a little bit. For Alex I decided that he had to max out Mixology and Charisma instead of just the Mixology Skill. I also decided that I'm going to try and keep income very limited to skills and jobs. So the only income I'm allowing Alex is what he makes moonlighting at bars, even though he has the Angler trait, most guys who fish don't get to sell their catch for side cash.
For Miscellaneous Fun Goal I rolled - Fighter, sim must get into a fight or brawl at least once a week. I assigned this one to Alex as well .. him spending so much time in the bars and all!!
Wheww, ok on to Gillian!
Gillian Crowell - Absent Minded, Hates the Outdoors, Clumsy, Commitment Issues, Cat Person
Gillian is a Picese and her LTW is Renaissance Sim (Max out three skills)
For Secondary Income... Gillian rolled Daycare. (* another side note, after reading the rules again it seems like each sim could have two incomes a primary and a secondary .. but I decided to give Alex the Primary Income goal and Gillian the Secondary Income goal.. that way it's only a realistic two income household rather than four possible incomes) Gillian can only make money watching kids at her home. Since there are no real 'skills' assigned, gained or needed for Daycare provider I am just working on her LTW as well as topping out the Daycare Career Levels.
Anyway, they did rather well with their starting $16,000. Bought a bit of land, built a small house, and furnished it just enough to get by and to start off Gillian's Daycare business. They had a whole $3 left over when all was said and done.
Yes, they even spent a bit on some landscaping!
So what's a girl to do in a new town with no money and crazy goals... hit up the library of course! Gillian registered her home based Daycare services using the library's free internet access.
Alex also utilized the wonderful free services of their local library by researching area bars and reading up on Mixology. Support Your Local Library!! :D
Before we knew it our first little monsters... I mean cherubs, were left in the caring (I hope!) hands of Gillian.. Toddler Wrangler.
Daycare work turned out to be pretty tiring work, but Gillian seems to be coping well considering she had no real traits to aid her, and she really seems to enjoy telling the kids scary stories about crazy men with hooks for hands.
...and of course the kids love Nick Jr.
Watching everyone else's kids made Gillian want one of her own. Besides, times a ticking and new heirs are always a priority in a Legacy Challenge. So Alex and Gillian.. get crackin' in the baby making department!
Needless to say with the finances what they are in the Crowell house Mixology books were a luxury Alex just couldn't afford. Thankfully the library had plenty of resources when it came the art of mixing a mean cocktail! And what with Alex spending most mornings at the library it was inevitable that he would become quite a familiar fixture and meet many of the locals. Of course no one gets along with everyone and one day Alex met his first sour grape of Appaloosa Plains.
Alex being the metrosexual dude that he is had simply tried to do the right thing and inform one argyle dipped Bertram Bedlington that it was quite a fashion faux pas to wear matching patterns for your hat, coat and pants. And what does he get for his selfless sharing of fashion advice??... insults and name calling that's what!!
When Bertram made fun of Alex's vest and suspenders .. well let's just say it was 'on' at that point.
...commence beat down...
You would think Alex would be kicked out of the library for good after starting a fight but .. nope... it just made him more popular... especially with the ladies. And with all the long hours studying...
...and all the long nights tending bar....
Gillian was finding herself alone quite a bit. Sure she had the kids during the day but her nights became filled with digital company... mainly Andrew Zimmern, Anthony Bourdain, Emeril Lagasse and Nadia G.!
Oh and of course the cat she adopted...though even Bebe seemed more interested in sleeping than keeping Gillian company.
Longing for the good life... the house did need some work, after all there was going to be a new baby running around soon.
Word is getting around town that Gillian's is the place to drop off the kidlets for the day. Sure she gets a bit more money but she now also has more kids to tend to.
... and of course the approaching arrival of their own little bundle of joy.
... because someone included in the rules that if you have Generations you must have a washing machine in the house! LOL Laundry... so tedious... good thing Gillian loves the smell of fresh cleaned laundry.
Now if only the washer didn't jump around ....
....and sound like a freight train with square wheels ... ahhh, girl, you might now want to wrestle with the washer in your condition.
See!.. what did I tell.... what you mean your water broke???
As we close out the first chapter of this challenge we leave the Crowell's with not one but TWO new bundles of joy. A boy Levi (Clumsy and Eccentric) and a girl Olivia (Perceptive and Grumpy) I rolled for heir and Levi won. I will roll his other curses when he is a teen.
**at this point my lot started to get all glitchy too.. one crib wouldn't work, and interactions with Levi were cancelling themselves out. I used the "Make All Happy" cheat one time after repeated attempts to reset sims, sell and buy new cribs ect, then saved and quit the game. Hopefully when I restart later things will be running as they should.**
